Air Travel for the sick and Injured
- It is not widely understood that given the correct
circumstances it is possible to transfer anyone by air. Although the environment is
unfriendly given a team that understands it and is well accustomed to it there will be no
significant problems.
- It is essential to have the greatest amount of detail
possible and to ensure that the team can liaise with those currently treating the patient.
It is not unusual for the treating Doctor to be unaware of the possibilities of air
transport
- It is because of the need for good backup that the Company
will work alongside the various professionals and organisations which are necessary to
make the transfer safe economical and comfortable.
- Given the professional advice it becomes easier to decide
how and when the patient can travel and if there is no insurance cover it is of
great comfort to know that your eventual costs can be contained to within reasonable
limits. The difference in cost between transferring the patient by air ambulance and
commercial airliner is massive.
- There are very few patients who will not travel
comfortably and safely in an airliner with a competent escort. Recently
however several of the major airlines have taken a decision not to allow
stretcher transfers ion its flights and it is probably only a matter of time
before this extends to other airlines. None the less it is still possible to
arrange commercial stretchers to most areas of the world.
